touch the earth

First day of the fall dance session happened yesterday and I moved in the in-between spaces, watching  moments come and go, coalesce and dissipate, open and close.

Shapes formed, spaces widened, breath slowed.

Bodies in space:

It floors me -- cuts me to the quick -- every single time.

Whether it’s one body melting and then finding form, or whether it's 16 bodies, not yet known, reaching out, and also in.

As a non-cryer, non-beliver, and incessant eye-roller, it is this situation — always this situation — where I'm wiping away tears, feeling that lump in my throat, and goosebumps on my arms.

The open expanse of the body.

That freedom, and also that pain.

The capacity to encounter, with curiosity, all that is inside of you and all that is outside of you?

That’s hard!

It’s also all that matters in the end.

"A desire to kneel down sometimes pulses through my body, or rather it is as if my body has been meant and made for the act of kneeling. Sometimes, in moments of deep gratitude, kneeling down becomes an overwhelming urge, head deeply bowed, hands before my face."  -- ETTY HILLESUM

Yup.

I felt like that, after class yesterday.

Most days after class I feel like that.
